Domestic Abuse Education & Awareness

At Soul Sisters, we believe that knowledge is power. Our Education & Awareness Initiative is designed to help young people recognise and prevent domestic violence by promoting healthy relationships and informed choices. We’re committed to empowering the next generation to build safer, more respectful communities.

Partnering with Schools For Domestic Abuse Awareness

We collaborate with schools to bring our domestic violence awareness programme directly into classrooms. We work with educators to introduce this essential programme as part of their Personal, Social, Health, and Economic (PSHE) curriculum.

What Our Programme Covers

Here’s what we focus on:

  • Understanding Relationships: We explain the different types of relationships and help students identify the characteristics of healthy versus unhealthy ones.
  • Boundaries Matter: Students learn the importance of setting and respecting personal boundaries in all relationships.
  • Recognising Abuse: We teach how to spot the signs of various forms of abuse and understand what to do if they or someone they know experience domestic abuse.
  • Safeguarding: Students learn when and how to report behaviours that raise concern and why safeguarding is crucial.
  • Facing the Emotional Impact: We discuss the emotional challenges that can come with being exposed to domestic abuse or reporting abuse, especially when it involves someone close.
  • Speaking Up: We emphasise the importance of speaking out against domestic abuse and the consequences of staying silent.
  • Breaking the Cycle: We offer insights on how trauma can impact future relationships and parenting, helping students understand how to avoid continuing cycles of abuse.

Involving Children and Young People

We believe the best programmes are those shaped by the people they’re meant to serve. That’s why we actively involve students in developing our content. Through focus groups and feedback sessions, young people help us ensure that the programme is engaging, relevant, and effective.

Our Goals

Our Education & Awareness Initiative is driven by these goals:

  1. Building Strong Partnerships: We aim to partner with schools to integrate our domestic violence programme into their PSHE curriculum.
  2.  Offering Flexible Learning: We create adaptable programme options to meet the unique needs of different schools and students.
  3. Listening to Youth Voices: We involve young people in the development of our programme to ensure it resonates with them.
  4. Teaching Trauma-Informed Skills: We equip students with the tools they need to recognise and stop unhealthy relationships and cycles of abuse.
  5. Constantly Improving: We regularly evaluate our program’s effectiveness and make adjustments based on feedback to keep improving.
