A woman who had separated from her abusive husband contacted us after being recommended by another woman we had supported. She was facing significant language and cultural barriers and did not feel able to ask her adult children for help with her divorce application.
She felt isolated and was anxious about court fees, as she had never worked and had no independent income.
As a confidential and culturally sensitive service, including support in Urdu, we were able to:
- Explain the divorce process clearly.
- Help her complete the divorce application.
- Support her to complete a fee remission form.
- Submit the appropriate documentation to the court.
We also informed her that the court may request financial evidence and helped her prepare this in advance to avoid complications.
She had not known she was eligible for help with fees and had delayed applying due to fear of costs.
By removing language barriers and financial confusion, we enabled her to move forward with dignity and independence.
